About Logan Brien
Artist's Statement
I am a veteran and artist whose work explores the balance between peace and turmoil — the emotional and spiritual dualities shaped by a life of travel, military service, and deep cultural immersion. My creative practice is rooted in personal experience and spiritual reflection, especially inspired by time spent living and studying in Japan.
At the center of my work is a life-long project: 1001 Buddhas. This evolving body of work is my tribute to the stillness, repetition, and reverence I experienced visiting countless temples across Japan. Through this series, I explore the many faces of compassion, resilience, and awakening — themes that have taken on profound meaning in my own journey.
Whether working in thickly layered acrylics with a palette knife or detailed ink compositions, I strive to create emotional resonance through contrast, texture, and motion. My creations often begin with a memory or concept from my travels — something that stirred me — and evolve through reference gathering, sketching, and exploratory studies before becoming final works.
I make art to create beauty that moves people. My goal is to elicit honest, powerful emotion — whether it's calm, awe, sorrow, or hope. I want to be known for paintings that are dramatic, spiritual, and grounded in a sincere exploration of the human experience.
